2009

Roscoe
Roscoe never even made it on the available page! Pablo and Val were holding him until we could transport him to his foster home, and he never left. This tiny beagle mix quickly made himself at home and is busy being spoiled rotten. He was born without eyes, but that didn't stop him from taking over his new home!

Eva
Eva is a very sweet  9 month old partially blind Siberian Husky puppy. She ended up at a shelter in Canada when she was tossed out of a car. Someone saw this happen, and took her to a local shelter. From there she was transported to her foster home in PA.
Eva just got here, so check back for updates. For now we can say she is VERY sweet! She seems to love all dogs and just wants to play. She has rolled belly up to dominant dogs. Eva found her forever home on November 29 and is currently having fun playing with her new sieter Annabelle, a 1 year old hound mix. We look forward to updates on Eva.

Duncan
Duncan introduces himself:

24 hours towards a better life; thanks BDRA  :-)

Please allow me to introduce myself; I am Duncan the Brown Warrior.  Today, September 18, 2009 is the first day of my brand new life.  Let me tell you my story ...

Yesterday at this time I lived with 60 dogs and 20 cats at a Not-So-Humane Society pen where I've been suffering for over a year.  You see I have one perforated eye, one eye where the lens has tilted back in my head, I suffer from Scabies and the Mange, yeast infections in both ears, hookworms and  other health issues.  I am malnourished, weak and tired - but all is so much better.

My friends Phyllis and Pam arranged my release from the hell I lived in and took me to their local vet who gave me a steroid shot to ease the unbearable itching and pills to take the edge of the pain.  I then settled into Big Blue the van for a trip to my new life.

After fine meals and a great night's sleep, this morning I visited Dr. Dee who prescribed a cocktail of medicines to help me improve.  My future includes removal of both eyes yet right now I'm focusing on healing my skin, ears, internals and resting up from the stress I've lived under for so long.

Please do not be bothered by my current situation or by my  pictures below.  Yes I have much to heal yet I am past Rock Bottom.

The same warrior spirit that allowed me to defend myself, to scrounge  enough food to survive, to overcome the buckshot in my eye and all of my pain, that same spirit will now allow me to heal, to grow, to overcome, to thrive and to love.
Duncan will now be thriving in his foster home, as they flunked fostering yet again (see Roscoe, above). His foster parents realized what Duncan knew all along:  that he is already home.  See updates on Duncan at www.bassim.us

Grace
Grace is a blind and deaf Dachshund.  Sweet little Grace was found wandering a busy street in Texas, emaciated, covered in fleas, with infected eyes, heart worm and whip worm. Picked up by a loving soul, she received veterinary care to clear up her infections and start her on her new life.

Grace is a very smart little girl, and endlessly determined to bulldoze her way to what and where she wants.  She is a quick study and will learn the lay of the land in a flash including where the back door is. She often will scratch to go outside to relieve herself

She will keep you laughing at her quirky little ways.  She barks at sunlight and shadows, or when she thinks someone strange is there and isn't.  All in all, she will steal your heart, and she's so good to cuddle with.  Grace adores snuggling on your lap with her favorite blanket. She also loves to give kisses.

Not surprising to anyone, Grace's foster family fell in love with her, and voted unanimously to keep her.

Connor

Poor sweet Connor is a Siberian Husky, about 5 years old. He was brought to an Ohio shelter as a stray. He was clearly neglected, as he is a mere 34 pounds. Thanks to Eva for coordinating his removal from the shelter, and Christine for pulling him and getting him to the vet, he is now safe. He is slightly anemic and his liver function studies are a little elevated, but we think that is due to his malnutrition. His right eye is swollen, but the pressures are normal, so we're not sure what it is. He is definitely blind in that eye, and likely blind in the other as well. He is also heartworm positive, but he's too weak to undergo treatment now. So, in the meantime, he will be busy getting his strength back. Once he puts some weight on he will be treated for heartworm. He is currently living in a vet clinic in Ohio. Once he is better he will travel to his foster home in PA. Despite being so ill, he wags at everyone he meets. He has met other dogs well, and even a cat! Connor means strong will, and he certainly has that! Stay tuned for updates as Connor recovers.
Connor update: He went to the ophthalmologist. Unfortunately he needs to have one eye removed and biopsied. That will not be scheduled until he gains some more weight and goes through his heartworm treatment. Otherwise he is doing well, and gaining weight. Look at his updated pictures and see how much better he looks!

Connor had his eye removed, and was neutered. He is doing great, and is now heartworm negative!

Connor started off the new year by going to his new home. He lives a mile away from his foster home, who will undoubtedly visit frequently! Good luck, Connor!

Connor's foster mom, Bev, saying goodbye.

Buddy
Buddy is a 9 year old Poodle. His foster home reports:
Buddy has learned how to step up and get around the house very well. He moves along like a sighted dog. He's mapped out all the rooms and knows where dinner is served. He loves to cuddle close and give lots of kisses   I can't imagine  why someone would choose to not protect and comfort this  little guy in his senior years but we feel blessed to be able to care and love this guy till he gets a forever home. This little guy will make someone very happy.
I introduced him to my pack and he got along fine. He is up to date on everything and is neutered.

Another foster failure! Buddy's foster home finally realized what Buddy knew all along: that he was already home!
 Good boy, Buddy!
