Ian - he is a 7-12 month old 12 lb Tricolor cutie. Cockalier? Spaniel mix. Awsome attitude. Great with all people and children. (But recomend older children due to size) Good with my dogs which are medium/small size (cocker and cavilier). Has lived with multiple cats.
LIKES: Short walks and playing.
DISLIKES: Big dogs that sneak up (he totally flipped out at the vet)
FAVORITE PASTIME: Sitting in your lap listening to TV or while you work on the computer.
*Would make a Fabulous Companion. Ian is being fostered in California.
Update:
Ian rung in the new year in style! He convinced his foster home that he was already home! So Stephanie and Danny failed Fostering 101, joining Duncan, Grace and Buddy, who also were adopted by their foster homes recently. Contratulations!

Meet Kanoa, he's a really sweet, five year old Siberian Husky. He has beautiful markings and a great temperament! Kanoa is up to date on his vaccinations and is in good health. Despite his being blind, he really likes to explore his surroundings, and is learning commands such as "step" which will help him get around in his new home. He is also getting accustomed to crate training, where he feels very safe and can relax. Kanoa loves to give kisses and get treats, and enjoys meeting other dogs. He will need an owner who has the patience to show him around, spend lots of active time with him, and get to know his sweet personality! Kanoa is being fostered in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Kanoa has a video! Check it out here.
The "foster failure" epidemic has apparently reached Canada, as his foster home finally realized what Kanoa knew, and what the rest of the rescue was waiting for. Kanoa's foster family fell in love with Kanoa and couldn't let him go! So Kanoa's foster mom got the best birthday present ever! Update: Kanoa has been put to work cleaning the floors.Video here.

Casey is a very sweet 3-4 year old English Setter. He loves people and other dogs. He has Progressive Retinal Atrophy, or PRA, which will cause him to go blind within a couple of years. He seems to have some night blindness now, which is the first sign of PRA. He doesn't let it stop him, though! Casey was originally adopted out through Ohio English Setter Rescue, but his adopter does not think their home will be well suited to a blind dog, and OESR asked us to help rehome him, since we are familiar with blind dogs, and are based in Philadelphia, where Casey is living. Casey found his forever home on January 16! Congratulations to Casey and to his new family.

His new family had brand new squeaky toys waiting for him!

Fallon is a sweet boy rescued from Quebec along with approximately 100 other abandoned Siberian Huskies and Husky mixes. Fallon and 31 other dogs were brought down into the United States to go into local rescues. He's around 5 yrs of age. Fallon is the quietest dog I ever had, not a peep out of him since he came into rescue.
He is a very sweet boy who never stops wagging his tail! He's very quiet for a Siberian Husky, too! Fallon, now renamed Draven, was adopted on January 30 in Northern PA by Scott and Caroline. He is currently being adored and spoiled rotten, going on 4-5 mile jogs daily. See how quickly he settled in!

Loxlee's family was infected with the "foster failure" epidemic spreading like wildfire through BDRA. Hazel and Gary just couldn't part with little Loxlee. She is a 10 year old blind and diabetic Pomeranian mix, who is very full of life. She takes her medication with no problem, is fully vetted (including spay). She is house broken, crate trained and good with other dogs both large and small. A gentle soul, she just wants to be loved and have some attention, she loves to explore the house and follow you around. If she hears a noise she will bark very faintly to let you know something is going on. She is just content to be with you and nap by your side.
|
Update 5/23/10
Here is a picture of Loxlee and her best buddy doing one of her favorite things napping with Gabe. And one in the kitchen to grab a snack, if she can, from Grandma, with Alexis and Gabe She is doing so well she is quite the busy bee, when not napping :)

Joy is a very sweet little 8 week old puppy. She is possibly some type of lab mix. She may have some sight. She came to rescue only 3 pounds! She is certainly full of joy in her foster home, as she was only hours from being euthanized when they saved her. She loves to give kisses, be held and hang with the other dogs. She likes to play with Roscoe, who was BDRA's first success story! She currently lives in TN.
Joy update:
She is NOT blind. We don't know why the shelter thought she was, but she can see just fine!

You would never know that Moon Pie was completely blind--apart from walking like a drunken sailor, she gets everywhere, including up and down stairs. She loves walks, loves people, her tail never stops wagging! She is living in a foster home with three other dogs and several cats. She is completely house trained, does not bark except when she wants to come inside, and just wants to be with her people. She'll follow you around the house. She enjoys the occasional chew toy and loves walks and car rides. Moon Pie was found as a stray in Ohio so her exact age isn't known, perhaps between 7-10 years old. She has been checked by a veterinarian, her teeth and health are excellent, she is heartworm negative, spayed and current on vaccinations. Moon Pie likes her foster home but would really like her very own forever people. She is such a sweetie! I let Moon Pie walk around the house when I brought her home, with the other dogs outside. I noticed she kept her head lowered and bonked gently into things all over...almost like she was mapping the space. She is clearly comfortable with being blind, she's very waggy and not at all hesitant. Moon Pie, who stole all of our hearts, also stole another. She is now in her forever home with Peggy in Massachusetts, where she will be spoiled rotten. She will also occasionally go to a local school to teach kids about handicaps, and how to overcome them. Moon Pie loves everyone, so we are certain she will be a fantastic blind dog ambassador.
Update: 5/8/10
Hope's Adoptive Mother says:
"Thank you Blind Dog Rescue for taking a chance on this girl!. Hope is an awesome dog and living life! She lives with 3 cats and 2 blind foster dogs from Blind Dog Rescue. She loves her walks and trips to the beach where she runs free off leash with her ears flapping in the wind. She comes running to me when I call her! She mapped out the house and backyard in no time. She has a sweet soul that loves attention from others and will soon be going to 3rd grade classrooms to teach children about disabilities and soon will be certified to be a therapy dog. She makes people smile with her adorable expression, waggy tail, and eagerness to please. She draws a crowd whereever we go! She loves rides in the car to new adventures and just loves to meet new people. Everyone that meets her is astounded that she is blind because she doesn't act it at all! Hope has changed my life and I am grateful to Blind Dog Rescue for bringing me my girl. May God bless you in your work for the blind dogs."

Today I met Dolly, a very sweet little cocker who desperately needs a home, or at least a foster home for now. She was found as a stray by my local ACO (who I am friends with) and is currently boarding at a local veterinary hospital. This poor little girl has been through alot. She is approximately 8 to 10 years old and is blind in one eye. Her teeth were horrible and yesterday she had a dental and some extractions. She had a leaking problem, but the vet tech believes she had a urinary infection and she is currently on antibiotics which seem to be helping. She weighs about 20 pounds. She definitely needs some meat on her bones; she is totally emaciated with all ribs showing. Life has been hard for this little girl, but despite all that she is very sweet. I spent alot of time with her today, and my heart was breaking because I so wanted to bring her home. This little one, with those pleading cocker eyes, really got to me. Dolly found her forever home and is now happily being spoiled in MIchigan, and is renamed Isabelle.

Prince was found on the side of the highway, unable to move, with dried blood around his head, neck and eyes. The people who found him thought he had been hit by a car and took him to their vet. He had no sign of internal injuries, but it was discovered that he had been shot in the head with buckshot, and his eyes would need to be removed. He had eye removal surgery and did well. Through it all he only wants love, belly rubs, and ear scritches. His foster home didn't take long to determine that he would belong to the foster failure club. He is now living with his Siberian Husky sister Isis, and his foster family. Welcome home, Prince!

Keller is a senior blind/deaf Cocker Spaniel. He was found left in a veterinarian's parking lot, in his crate. He was brought to a temporary BDRA foster home, until he could be transported to his foster home. Turns out the temporary foster home wasn't so temporary. He will be joining Roscoe and Duncan, and will be happy and spoiled for the rest of his life!

Toona has arrived! She is an 8 week old red Rottweiler puppy. She came to us from Ohio. She currently resides in a foster home in Michigan. Red Rottweilers come from a recessive gene and can have eye and heart problems. We will be taking her to our vet ASAP for a checkup. She can maybe see light, but nothing else. She certainly doesn't mind. A report form her foster home on her first night: Curious, practically fearless, bullheaded...I just put her in the crate with the blankie and stuffies in the bedroom after she's been charging around the house getting swatted at by the cats and inspected by the other dogs, and a couple of potty trips to the back yard. She screamed like a banshee for about five minutes and now it's blessed silence. Little Toona has crashed in the crate in the bedroom and we're about to go keep her company...hopefully I'll get several hours of sleep. She is, of course, freakin' adorable. Toona was adopted on March 10th. She has already settled right in and attacked and killed several pairs of shoes. Not long after that, she went to the pet store for some toys.

Puppy breath! Uri is an 11 week old Siberian Husky puppy. He was found wandering as a stray in Canada. He has made his way to Philadelphia, with the help of some very generous volunteers, and he is now looking for his forever home. He loves to play with other dogs, of course. He listens to "No" fairly well, for a puppy. He will go in his crate (he likes bigger crates to smaller ones). He has learned to go up and down steps. He can see very well. If he has any visual impairment, it doesn't bother him. He is VERY friendly and social and loves everyone. Uri has a home! He is going to live with Heather and Nadia along with their dogs Dasher and Gracie. Uri and Gracie love to play, wrestle, and romp through mud together. He will have a great life, but we're going to miss him!

Wally, a sweet blind senior Chow mix, has finally found his forever home! He now lives in Michigan!

Smudgie
came from a shelter down south... she's a love and has the sweetest
disposition
ever. She's always happy, wagging her curly little tail. She will dance
for
you and after a bath, rolls around in the towels. She's
adorable. Smudge is a 6-8 month old puppy who is almost
totally blind. She ended up at a shelter in North Carolina, who listed
her as a Pomeranian/Shih Tzu mix. She looks like maybe some sort of
terrier mix to us. Smudge is now settled in her foster home in
NJ. She is a fantastic dog with the sweetest temperament and lots of
personality! She loves to dance, goes up and down steps with no
problem, and can jump up on the sofa and settle herself in quite
comfortably! She can see some things. Smudge found her forever home in CT on April 3! Her new owner even wants to volunteer with BDRA! Good luck Smudge!

Blind Dog Rescue Alliance is thrilled to introduce our first foster dog,
Adam, formerly Tex, of Georgia. He was in a shelter and out of time
before one of our volunteers, Cheri, offered to foster him. Vice
President Colleen immediately jumped in and arranged vetting, and
transport from GA to his foster home in Wisconsin. Tex arrived safely,
and received a new name, Adam. He is 1-3 years old, and couldn't be
sweeter. He's a pointer mix. He is blind in one eye. He loves people,
loves to play with other dogs (he traveled most of the way with another
dog, Red), and would love a forever home. We are still getting to know
Adam, so please check back soon. If you have any questions about Adam,
please email us at info@blinddogrescue.com. Adam finally found his forever home, complete with 2 children and another dog to play with!! We know he will be happy and spoiled for the rest of his life. He had a long wait, but the wait was worth it because we couldn't have found a better home for him!!

Andrew was brought to a shelter as a stray. He had such a bad infection in his eye that flies were buzzing around it. A little bit of an inexpensive ointment cleared it right up. He was also very thin, and you could easily see all of his ribs. He was very nervous and eager to please. He soon learned that noone was going to hurt him any longer, and that people are not scary. Andrew loves people, and LOVES giving kisses.
On April 18th, Blind Dog Rescue Alliance attended an event in Delaware and brought Andrew along. Our neighbors at the event were a wonderful couple from Maryland that just fell in love with Andrew. Andrew apparently knew before they did that he was meant to be with them, and spent the entire day hanging with them in their booth!
On April 25, this incredible couple adopted Andrew! Andrew is now at his forever home in Maryland with a bunch of new brothers and sisters. He lives with adoptive parents Donna and Keith, 2 Great Danes named Figuero and Fiona, and a lab/mix named Shannon.
He is one lucky pup and will be missed by BDRA! Good Luck Andrew!
|
(below) Andrew at his new home in Maryland. He has settled right in, and already claimed a dog bed.
|
Update 7/12/10:
Andrew is doing so well. He loves playing with Fiona the Great Dane, and he is up to 58 pounds (from 33 when he arrived at BDRA). Isn't he gorgeous?

IZ was found as a stray in a very rural town and had no hope of being adopted and would have deteriorated quickly if BDRA did not step in and rescue this cutie! He came into our rescue on April 24th from VA.
THERE'S A "FOSTER FAILURE" EPIDEMIC! On April 30th, after being with us for only a week, Iz's foster family gave him a forever home! One more added to the Marsh Pack. "Fiji, Pono, and Leilani now have a new Sibe sibling. Cause no one can have just one, or two, or three, Siberian Huskies. :) "

Jasper is a 10 week old blind Australian Shepherd mix puppy. Sweetest little thing you ever did see!
Jasper came into rescue not too long ago, and was being fostered in South Carolina.
On May 1st, Jasper was adopted into his forever home. He now resides in Pennsylvania, with his two new adoptive parents, a shepherd/mix named Thunder, a Pomeranian named Breeze, and two cats named Meadow and Willow. Best of luck to you Jasper in your new home!

Some people believe Yara is a Blind Dog Rescue Alliance blind doggie. Others say Yara is the Tibetan Terrier that was dumped on a busy Atlanta freeway while a tiny blind pup or that she’s the 5-month old funny girl with antics that delight all who meet her.
Yara was adopted by a wonderful family on May 30th. She currently resides with Dana, her husband, 3 kids, and Gert, Lil, Betty, and the rest of the family.

This bundle of love and fun was born blind, but don't feel sorry for him, he gets around just fine. He takes a little time to gently bump into things until he has a mental map of all obstacles in a room. Then he runs around and plays like any other puppy.
On June 2, his new adoptive Mom and Dad flew out to Salt Lake City from Wall, NJ to meet Chinook. Chinook later went home with his new parents to meet his 3 Eskie siblings. This was truly a very exciting day for all involved and we are so happy and excited for Jan, Walt, and especially Chinook. He will truly be one loved little puppy!

Louie is an amazing, 3-4 year old Shepherd Mix. He is completely blind, and has been that way since birth. When you look at his sweet face, it almost looks as if his eyes are fused shut, except for a few small slits where you can see his eyes. He has been examined by multiple vets, and since his condition was a birth defect, it cannot be corrected.
FOSTER FAILURE! FOSTER FAILURE! FOSTER FAILURE! On June 12, Louie was officially adopted by his foster mom, Meghan! Good Luck with your new family Louie! I'm sure we will be seeing you a lot.

Queenie
"A really sweet couple in my neighborhood met Queenie on one of her walks. They helped me with the boston BDRA event and spent most of the day with the Queen. By the end of the day, they were madly in love with her. Queenie had her eyes removed the next week. They were there for her the night before her surgery and the next day. Loving on her and comforting her. They came to me a week later and said that they can't imagine their life without her and they love her even more without her eyes and would like to adopt her!. They took her to her forever home on July 7th. They have a large network of friends and family that all have fallen in love with the Queen. Kristin is going to take her for therapy training and bring her to children's hospitals. The Queen...on a hit list at a shelter...in great pain from glaucoma....2 broken teeth..horrible matted coat.. Lyme disease...kennel cough.... Saved by Blind Dog Rescue and given a second chance. A pain free life. Two amazing parents to love on her and share her with those in need of comfort and a smile. The Queen will now spend the rest of her days giving back. Thank you Blind Dog Rescue for giving the Queen a second chance. The world will be a better place because of the Queen" Peggy (Queenie's foster mom)

Journey
Journey is a very sweet little girl. She would do better with a home without children. If you're looking for the perfect loving lap dog, Journey is your girl! Journey's search for her forever home ended in August 2010, when she was adopted. Good luck, Journey!

Nelly
Nelly was found as a stray and went to the pound, She was rescued by a very caring lady who saved her from a dismal fate. Nelly ended up in Massachusetts with me fostering her till we can find her a forever home. I am thrilled to be a part of her future. She had a very long trip to get here from Kentucky. A wonderful pilot flew her a distance of the way and drivers took over from there. What a wonderful organization this BDRA is!!!! Just amazing! Nelly is a sweet, sweet, girl. Very mellow and very quiet. Upon her arrival she was exhausted and confused. She made herself right at home and quickly made friends with my Pomeranian, Samson and my two cats, Isabella and Rascal. She had a few accidents in the house and in her crate her first night here. (Into the bath first thing..loved the bath didn't care much for the blow-dry!) I attribute her accidents to her long journey and not being on a regular schedule for relieving herself. Since I have put her on a regular schedule we have had no accidents. She actually went out on the deck (fenced in) and went pee all by herself when the slider was open. She's smart! She will need a home where she will be petted, loved and retrained with all the new house rules. She is starting to follow me around the house. She seems to want to be where I am. When we take our daily walks, she was pretty slow at first....today she actually galloped along side Samson. She does get tired, but with her new eating schedule and walking schedule she will be back in shape in no time. Her muscle tone in her legs was poor, but I am seeing a improvement already.

Truffles (formally Yanni)
On August 8th, Truffles found a forever home with a BDRA volunteer.
|
Evita
On August 13th, Evita found her forever home!
"As BDRA celebrated its first anniversary this week, one of its very own fosters was having a little celebration of her own. Happily, tags wagged, noses sniffed, and smiles gleamed: Evita has found her forever home! Let's hear it with a 21 howl Husky salute!
Evita's new family includes an older JRT named Sophie, her new Mom, and 3 great teenagers. Evita has already enjoyed a couple of runs with her two-legged brother and a swimming trip in the lazy river was planned for today. Evita had a trial sleepover before adoption and everything went smoothly. Evita and Sophie played and rested, played and rested. The kids all enjoyed their new "sibling" - and well, Evita gobbed it up!
A happy tail ending for all!"
