Blind Dogs See With Their Hearts!

Ian

Ian - he is a 7-12 month old 12 lb Tricolor cutie. Cockalier? Spaniel mix. Awsome attitude. Great with all people and children. (But recomend older children due to size) Good with my dogs which are medium/small size (cocker and cavilier). Has lived with multiple cats.

LIKES: Short walks and playing.

DISLIKES: Big dogs that sneak up (he totally flipped out at the vet)

FAVORITE PASTIME: Sitting in your lap listening to TV or while you work on the computer.

*Would make a Fabulous Companion.
Ian is being fostered in California.
Update: Ian rung in the new year in style! He convinced his foster home that he was already home! So Stephanie and Danny failed Fostering 101, joining Duncan, Grace and Buddy, who also were adopted by their foster homes recently.
Contratulations!
Kanoa

Meet Kanoa, he's a really sweet, five year old Siberian Husky. He has beautiful markings and a great temperament! Kanoa is up to date on his vaccinations and is in good health. Despite his being blind, he really likes to explore his surroundings, and is learning commands such as "step" which will help him get around in his new home. He is also getting accustomed to crate training, where he feels very safe and can relax. Kanoa loves to give kisses and get treats, and enjoys meeting other dogs. He will need an owner who has the patience to show him around, spend lots of active time with him, and get to know his sweet personality! Kanoa is being fostered in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Kanoa has a video!
Check it out here.

The "foster failure" epidemic has apparently reached Canada, as his foster home finally realized what Kanoa knew, and what the rest of the rescue was waiting for. Kanoa's foster family fell in love with Kanoa and couldn't let him go!
So Kanoa's foster mom got the best birthday present ever!
Update: Kanoa has been put to work cleaning the floors.Video here.
Casey
Casey is a very sweet 3-4 year old English Setter. He loves people and other dogs. He has Progressive Retinal Atrophy, or PRA, which will cause him to go blind within a couple of years. He seems to have some night blindness now, which is the first sign of PRA. He doesn't let it stop him, though! Casey was originally adopted out through Ohio English Setter Rescue, but his adopter does not think their home will be well suited to a blind dog, and OESR asked us to help rehome him, since we are familiar with blind dogs, and are based in Philadelphia, where Casey is living.
Casey found his forever home on January 16! Congratulations to Casey and to his new family.
His new family had brand new squeaky toys waiting for him!
Fallon
Fallon is a sweet boy rescued from Quebec along with approximately 100 other abandoned Siberian Huskies and Husky mixes. Fallon and 31 other dogs were brought down into the United States to go into local rescues.  He's around 5 yrs of age. Fallon is the quietest dog I ever had, not a peep out of him since he came into rescue.
He is a very sweet boy who never stops wagging his tail! He's very quiet for a Siberian Husky, too!
Fallon, now renamed Draven, was adopted on January 30 in Northern PA by Scott and Caroline. He is currently being adored and spoiled rotten, going on 4-5 mile jogs daily.  See how quickly he settled in!
Loxlee
Loxlee's family was infected with the "foster failure" epidemic spreading like wildfire through BDRA. Hazel and Gary just couldn't part with little Loxlee. She is a 10 year old blind and diabetic Pomeranian mix, who is very full of life. She takes her medication with no problem, is fully vetted (including spay). She is house broken, crate trained and good with other dogs both large and small. A gentle soul, she just wants to be loved and have some attention, she loves to explore the house and follow you around. If she hears a noise she will bark very faintly to let you know something is going on. She is just content to be with you and nap by your side.
Joy
Joy is a very sweet little 8 week old puppy. She is possibly some type of lab mix. She may have some sight.  She came to rescue only 3 pounds! She is certainly full of joy in her foster home, as she was only hours from being euthanized when they saved her. She loves to give kisses, be held and hang with the other dogs. She likes to play with Roscoe, who was BDRA's first success story! She currently lives in TN.
Joy update: She is NOT blind. We don't know why the shelter thought she was, but she can see just fine!
Moon Pie
You would never know that Moon Pie was completely blind--apart from walking like a drunken sailor, she gets everywhere, including up and down stairs. She loves walks, loves people, her tail never stops wagging! She is living in a foster home with three other dogs and several cats. She is completely house trained, does not bark except when she wants to come inside, and just wants to be with her people. She'll follow you around the house. She enjoys the occasional chew toy and loves walks and car rides. Moon Pie was found as a stray in Ohio so her exact age isn't known, perhaps between 7-10 years old. She has been checked by a veterinarian, her teeth and health are excellent, she is heartworm negative, spayed and current on vaccinations. Moon Pie likes her foster home but would really like her very own forever people. She is such a sweetie!
I let Moon Pie walk around the house when I brought her home, with the other dogs outside. I noticed she kept her head lowered and bonked gently into things all over...almost like she was mapping the space. She is clearly comfortable with being blind, she's very waggy and not at all hesitant.
Moon Pie, who stole all of our hearts, also stole another. She is now in her forever home with Peggy in Massachusetts, where she will be spoiled rotten. She will also occasionally go to a local school to teach kids about handicaps, and how to overcome them.  Moon Pie loves everyone, so we are certain she will be a fantastic blind dog ambassador.

Dolly
Today I met Dolly, a very sweet little cocker who desperately needs a home, or at least a foster home for now.  She was found as a stray by my local ACO (who I am friends with) and is currently boarding at a local veterinary hospital.  This poor little girl has been through alot.  She is approximately 8 to 10 years old and is blind in one eye.  Her teeth were horrible and yesterday she had a dental and some extractions.  She had a leaking problem, but the vet tech believes she had a urinary infection and she is currently on antibiotics which seem to be helping.  She weighs about 20 pounds.  She definitely needs some meat on her bones; she is totally emaciated with all ribs showing.  Life has been hard for this little girl, but despite all that she is very sweet.  I spent alot of time with her today, and my heart was breaking because I so wanted to bring her home.  This little one, with those pleading cocker eyes, really got to me.
Dolly found her forever home and is now happily being spoiled in MIchigan, and is renamed Isabelle.
Prince
Prince was found on the side of the highway, unable to move, with dried blood around his head, neck and eyes. The people who found him thought he had been hit by a car and took him to their vet. He had no sign of internal injuries, but it was discovered that he had been shot in the head with buckshot, and his eyes would need to be removed. He had eye removal surgery and did well. Through it all he only wants love, belly rubs, and ear scritches.
His foster home didn't take long to determine that he would belong to the foster failure club. He is now living with his Siberian Husky sister Isis, and his foster family. Welcome home, Prince!
Keller
Keller is a senior blind/deaf Cocker Spaniel. He was found left in a veterinarian's parking lot, in his crate. He was brought to a temporary BDRA foster home, until he could be transported to his foster home. Turns out the temporary foster home wasn't so temporary. He will be joining Roscoe and Duncan, and will be happy and spoiled for the rest of his life!
