Information:

It will take a person as special as Cal to understand and appreciate him. He is a senior, enjoys his alone time- but will greet you when you return home! He likes to be told he is a "good boy" and petted a few times throughout the day/he does not want to play or cuddle. He is very smart and very aware of his surroundings. I feel Cal would do best in a home without small children because he is not very tolerant. He will make you aware if he dislikes something - including hugging him. Cal demands to get to know you before he will let you get close to him - I have had him about a month and he just started letting me give him a quick hug. You ABSOLUTELY must speak to him before you touch him. He becomes upset if startled (another reason he would not be good with kids). Cal likes to be outside - he trots at the dog park/very cute!  He just loves to go to the park!  He does not have a favorite toy; have offered him toys - he has no interest in them.  He, of course, loves treats!  I want him to be happy and he deserves that. .. He’s a very special boy.

January 22, 2012 - I have been fostering Cal a few months now!  He has never had an accident in the house - which sometimes happens with older dogs - even if housetrained.  He gets along very well with Gracie, my blind King Charles, small dog.  Gracie will sometimes try to eat Cal's food, and Cal has not once growled or showed any sign of aggression or other negative behavior.  I have fostered sighted dogs through another rescue and Cal pays them no mind.  He is just a very sweet boy!  Cal does seem to be coming out of his shell.  When I first got him, he would hibernate into bedroom - now he will sit by me or my husband when we are on computer.  He will seek us out if we are on couch or elsewhere and want attention and to be loved on.  I have tried taking Cal upstairs (he resides in finished basement) - he seems to become to warm (although I do keep thermostat on 77 most of the time).  He is definately more comfortable in basement - just because it is cooler.  Cal has gotten better about going upstairs; he is still hesitant to come down; but does so with a little encouragement.  I have attached some photos!  The first one is funny because Cal was confused about what bed was his - and you would have to know Cal - he is very no nonsense - so you know he wasn't trying to be funny -which makes it even more funny.  Other pics are at park - where Cal would live if I would let him.
