Are you looking for a little furry companion? Well Lucky is looking for a forever home. Lucky will be free to a good home without children that will meet his needs. Lucky is a 2 year old terrier of some sort, not sure if pug or Boston terrier. Lucky has problems seeing out of one of his eyes so he tilts his head to one side most of the time to see but that does not stop him from playing with toys or chasing a ball. I am not sure if it is because of his impaired seeing or what but he would need an adult only home. For some reason he can be unpredictable with younger children. He also can get nippy if he is cuddled or petted too much, this seems to be too much stimulation for him. He would love to be a only pet in a childless home to have all the toys for himself and a spot on the couch or bed to tap naps. He loves to cuddle next to me when sleeping, he likes things on his terms. Lucky is housetrained. Lucky is currently staying at a house with several other dogs which he is ok with and small children which he is not good with so that is why he needs to find a new home as soon as possible.

REZZY

Rezzy is mostly blind due to his dry eye condition going untreated for years. Our neighbor found him running in traffic and brought him to us since she knew we fostered dogs. It's been over a year now and we still haven't found a home for him. We would keep him, but have 4 dogs of our own - 2 of which are seniors and he deserves a loving home of his home where he gets all the attention.

He is a white, fluffy shih tzu mix about 5 years old. Happy and playful, but very laid back ready to relax whenever you are.  He’s fixed and has all his shots. I also recently had close to $1000 worth of dental work done to get his teeth cleaned and some necessary extractions (he can still eat small kibble though). Regarding his blindness - you can barely tell other than the occasional bump into a wall and he follows sounds especially my voice.

He is great with our other dogs that are around his size or smaller, but seems to be fearful of larger dogs. Also, he is not a fan of cats :)

Our sweet Dillon has spent more than 1/2 of his life in a kennel through on fault of his own -- He would love nothing more than to spend the upcoming holiday season with a forever or foster family.

Dillon is a 2- year old Deaf American Bulldog mix, with amazing black freckle-like spots scattered on his skint. He is a real people-pleaser, who is happiest around someone who will simply love him.

Sweet, funny and playful, this adorable boy is looking for a new best friend! He is smart and active and looking for a committed person or family who can make him a part of their daily lives. He is a gentleman on the leash and well-mannered in the car, and LOVES to play fetch!!! He has learned several hand signals, including sit, and to wait for his "release and eat" commands for every meal and has been working on "drop it." Dillon prefers to be the only dog cuddling with you. so no other dogs or cats in your home.

Diva is a 8 month old Deaf American Bull Dog mix, with a very sweet and eager-to-please puppy personality.

Diva came to our attention thanks to some wonderful volunteers at Chicago's Anti-Cruelty Society. She didn't have a lot of help there, being a deaf girl in a cage, but the volunteers had fallen for her big eyes and sweet grin. She came to Secondhand Snoots and is foster care, and has already been working hard on her basic hand signals and housebreaking.

Diva is in a home with three other (male) dogs that are larger than she is, and also two cats, and five children ages fourteen and under. This girl gets along well with everyone, and will be fine as an only dog, but would also love a play-mate.

Diva is heartworm NEGATIVE! She is also spayed, up to date on his age appropriate vaccinations, worm and parasite free and microchipped.

I volunteer for IVAR  (Illinois Valley Animal Rescue). We recently took in an American Bulldog with advanced glaucoma in one eye and the other eye was questionable. After living in our shelter for a month, it was obvious Lily was in pain and our vet recommended we take her to an ophthalmologist for animals located in St. Charles, IL. Choosing the option that would relieve her of pain quickly unfortunately left her totally blind.

Lily is a wonderful dog! We guess she is only about 4 years old and since her surgery 2 weeks ago, she feels so much better and is bouncing around like a pup.

I've been reading about the care that blind dogs need, and am worried about depression setting in with Lily. She is in a temporary foster home for now, but she needs a family with a kid to run with her.

Update 01/23/12: Lily's check up went great, I was told that the pressure seems to have gone down in both eyes and the amount of drops she gets daily was reduced in one of her eyes.

KODEE

Hi, My name is Kodee. I'm a Texas boy that moved to the Midwest to be with momma and daddy. I love adventure and traveling in the car, so I am ready to see where my forever home will be. Virginia, New York, Georgia? There are so many places to see!

I love exploring the yard (and providing fence protection - you never know what's on the other side waiting to try to sneak in my yard!) and my mom says I pretend to play fetch. I will chase the ball, but foster mom is working with me on actually dropping the ball and not running away and turning it into a game of chase. Ha ha! The joke's on her because chase is my favorite game! I love to chase the other dogs around the yard, but sometimes I get frustrated when I can't catch them. You see, I have a hard time seeing at times, but it really doesn't slow me down. I run around after the dogs and I walk carefully in the house. I just have to bark at daddy when he leaves something new on the floor that might be in my path. What a jerk - doesn't he know that humans are supposed to accommodate all doxie needs?

For those of you that are wondering about my unique markings, I am a red double dapple (DD) and as DD owners know, we can have hearing and sight issues from our poor genetics from trying to breed cute or pretty doxies. DRNA says I am one of the lucky double dapples. My hearing is fine, but I do have some vision issues.

I have settled into my foster home and am learning to be an independent doxie, which is hard when all I want to do is snuggle in your lap and be where you want to be. I mean, humans do all kinds of interesting things and I want to be a part of all of it! My foster mom is also working on obedience with me. When I moved, I already knew sit, down and stay. I also surprised her with a roll over / play dead demo that she found out by accident when she was trying to get a puppy into a sit position. We are working on new "tricks" and better dog behavior - I love to rush through doors, so I am working on a sit/wait/release command.
Check out this video of me doing my tricks! http://youtu.be/k_beHtFVq6g

I also LOVE to play in the snow - not to bad for a Texan that hasn't really seen it before, huh? Video: http://youtu.be/x_8JVb_xp4w

I am neutered, working on house/cratetraining, up to date on my vaccines, heartworm/parasite free and I even got my teeth cleaned!

I would absolutely love someone that was home a lot so I could follow them around and do all of the cool things they do, but I understand that humans need to leave the house for doxie things. My foster parents leave the house and I am ok with that, but I wish they were home to snuggle more.

Kodee is currently in INDIANA, but his foster mom regularly adopts out to almost anywhere. Kodee has already traveled from Texas to be surrendered and he is ready to travel some more to head to his new home. Please don't let the distance dissuade you!

Kodee is available for adoption through DRNA, www.drna.org/08874
Kodee is currently under sanctuary status where his adoption fee is waived so that he can find the forever home that is best for him. Are you looking for a loveable snuggler to share your adventure with?

PLEASE contact his foster mom for more information regarding his health conditions and behavior as a double dapple doxie!

DALLAS

Charlene Molnar

Dallas is a small, 5 year old smooth Collie with a soft, easy care coat. He is described as a sweetheart by everyone who meets him. He loves to be pet and moves in close when you talk in his ear. When he is happy or excited he will point up his nose and do a quick little howl, almost like a yodel. Dallas is completely housebroken and crate trained. He gets along fine with other dogs, but has not yet engaged in any play. He easily gets around on his own and seems to like it that way. He likes going for walks and rides well in the car. He is a wonderful little companion with lots of love to give. Dallas was quite skinny when he was picked up as a stray in Dallas, TX, weighing only 45 lbs. In less than a month, he has gained almost 10 lbs and looks and feels much better. After coming into rescue, Dallas visited an Ophthalmologist and was found to have been born with inherited retinal degeneration (PRA). As a result, cataracts have formed and he is now functionally blind in both eyes. Unfortunately, removal of the cataracts will not improve his vision. This is not a painful condition and Dallas has adjusted well to his vision loss. Dallas will require one eye drop in each eye to prevent inflammation from causing secondary glaucoma. Given this, he would do best in a home where the routine and environment are somewhat consistent. In just a few days at his new foster home, Dallas was able to completely map out his surroundings. He goes in and outside and up and down stairs with ease. Dallas uses on his other senses of hearing, touch and smell. He listens closely and comes when called. Dallas walks very lightly on his feet and almost looks like he is high stepping and quickly jumps over anything in his way. His fine sense of smell has him pretty busy in the house, where he is very intent on finding the cats that live there. He spends a lot of time searching for the elusive creatures, so a new home without cats would be more peaceful for him. At night time or when you are away Dallas is very content and feels safe and secure in an open wire crate. Of course, he appreciates his soft, comfy bed inside and settles into a deep sleep. The adoption contribution for Dallas is $250.00.

SOUTHPAW

http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/18560879?mtf=1

Southpaw is a male bichon/poodle mix born sometime in 1999. He weighs almost 10 pounds and can be adopted for the Senior Dog Adoption Rate of $75.00

Southpaw is simply the most adorable gentleman puppy you may ever meet. He was turned in by his owners because he was old and blind. Unfortunately for Southpaw (or maybe not), he is not aware of those minor inconveniences, and is a tiny bundle of puppy dog energy! Hes a little tiger in a bichon/poodle body, with peach-tinged hair and a delightful face.

Although Southpaw is blind from cataracts, the dogtors say that surgery could correct that deficit. In the meantime, Southpaw quickly learned the lay of the land, and within two weeks of coming into my home as a foster, knew how to get around on the deck, the backyard, the garage, and the entire house. He certainly knows where the food dish is, and will paw at it furiously when he wants a nibble!

Southpaw is extremely playful, but loves to snuggle. He will capture a toy, no matter the size, and take it up onto the couch for a chew. He does this cute little butt-shake when he comes into the house after a potty break. He makes friends easily, but probably would prefer to be the alpha male in a home with another playmate, even though he is quite small. Southpaw walks very prettily on a leash, and needs only gentle guiding of the leash or with a voice command to keep him on track. He loves to walk with another fluffer to guide him, but will wander onto the grass when he wants to leave his mark.

Southpaw sleeps snuggled under the covers for most of the night, and comes up for air toward morning. He barks if hes concerned that he'll be left behind, or if he wants something desperately.

If you haven't realized from the description of Southpaw, hes an extremely young older fluffer with a huge attitude and lots of love. He occasionally wants to be held to snuggle under your chin, and makes the most divinely happy sounds, like hes smacking his lips, which leads to a peaceful sigh (from him, too). Once hes had enough of that, he'll jump down and run off to play or nap.

Southpaw gets along well with children, adults and other dogs. He can be a bit feisty around other dogs because hes insecure due to his blindness, but quickly becomes friends. He loves to be around his human, but will go off to nap or play by himself. He does his duty very well, but wears a belly-band due to his age and slight incontinence. He is extremely healthy otherwise (except for the two problems mentioned: cataracts and slight incontinence), and would make a wonderful pet for almost any home. He probably would prefer to not be around very small children, as he cannot see them and could be startled, therefore, children in the home should be aged 10 and over.

Southpaw is being fostered in MI.

TANNER

Petfinder:
http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20592206
He is a neutered male, 1 year old named Tanner.  Cataracts on his eyes prevent him from seeing. He is housebroken, knows basic commands, and has a unique way of playing fetch. If you bounce a tennis ball off a hard floor, he listens to it and then will run and fetch it, bringing it back to the sound of your voice. He recognizes people by your voice. If you are one of his people, he will jump up and cuddle with you, rubbing his head on you like a contented cat. He loves to be pet and told he is a good boy. Nothing makes his tail wag more than attacked a stuffed dog toy! If he hears an unfamiliar voice, his instinct is to be overly defensive, making it difficult to adopt him out when potential adopters (or, to him, strangers) come to visit him. He reacts the same way to other dogs, often growling, because he cannot see them to to read their body language. He really needs a patient owner who can help him learn to trust and to blossom into a great dog.

Hi, my name is Zayla! I am a beautiful little Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. As of 1/25/12, I am 5 months old and weigh 10.6 lbs so when I am fully grown I will probably be about 12 lbs of love. I am a very special girl and will need a very special forever home.

I had a very sad start to life; my sisters and I were all born totally blind. We were rescued from a hoarder situation and because our mom was not in very good health and we were in such dirty living conditions we were born without irises, lenses and have detached retinas so I will never see. But, don’t you worry about me now, once I know my surroundings, I can get around very well all by myself. You should see my foster mom trying to catch me outside when it is time to come in from potty breaks and I want to play, I make her chase me all around and play, but I know when she says enough, it is time to go inside.

I am the sweetest girl and my favorite hobbies are cuddling with my foster mom on the sofa and playing chase outside. Sometimes I chase her by the sound of her voice or she carries little bells and sometimes she chases me, it is so much fun! My foster mom says anybody watching us play would never know I was blind. It only took me a couple of weeks to fully learn my surroundings both inside the house and in the backyard, but now I know,  I don’t bump into things.

I am doing very well with potty training and my foster mom takes me outside on a regular schedule and I know when she puts me on the grass it is time to go potty. When she is at work I use piddle pads and am very good at finding the pads so we are also trying to learn how to use a doggie litter box. I love chewies! I am learning how to play with squeaky toys… I am very good at shaking them!

My foster mom took me to the vets to get spayed and they also had to fix a thing called an umbilical hernia, but now I am all vetted and ready to find my very special forever home. When I was at the vets, my foster mom had to explain to them that I cannot be crated because I panic and can hurt myself so I spent the whole morning before my surgery cuddling on laps. Everyone at the vets office loved me and couldn’t believe how much I loved to snuggle.

Obviously, with me being blind, I will need someone that understands my condition and is able to work with me and take the time to help me learn and is also ready and willing to make the commitment to a lifelong best friend.

If you think you have room in your heart and home for a special girl like me, please fill out an application and email it to slarl@yahoo.com
