I recently rescued a little chihuahua from Rogers Animal Shelter. I couldn't leave him there due to his eye problems. Wally is not totally blind, he is wall-eyed. He cannot see anything straight in front of him but does have some peripheral vision. We believe him to be only about a year old and he is a total little love. Just a wonderful little clown and as happy as he can be. Wally is fully vetted, neutered, shots, etc. He has not been HW tested. We are located near Little Rock, AR.

Name: Mobe Sex: Shih Tzu (altered) Breed: Shih Tzu Age: Unknown Location: Palm Beach gardens, FL
Vet/Medical Info: Mobe was neutered 6/14/2008. He received DHPP and Bordetella 1 yr shots and rabies 3 yr shot 9/9/2011 and was also given Frontline, was dewormed and tested HW-. He also had a fecal test and it was negative. Vet noted bilateral ocular opacity (possibly blind) and he has possible peridontal disease and mild dental tartar. He also has a cyst on left side of hip area.
Owner Info: Mobe's owner recently saved him from Miami Dade Animal Services to avoid him being euthanized. His old owners did not want him anymore. It was indicated he had partial blindness and they put him in quarantine board. He had a cataract in one eye and hyphema probably from some blunt force in the other eye, however when this cleared up it was discovered he has cataracts in both eyes and is therefore essentially blind. They seem to be mature but they could potentially be operable to restore sight. He is healthy other than the cataracts, normal size and weight, no food allergies. To complicate this, Mobe’s new owners cat is not taking well to him and is attacking quite viciously, since he is blind he has no idea she is coming after him. She has asked some rescue contacts to find him a temporary foster home but is looking for a rescue who understands special needs dogs and specializes in placing a blind dog. Mobe is very alert and independent and walks well on the leash, even in an area he is unfamiliar with. He also is comfortable enough to walk off leash, if you click your fingers he follows you. He does not act as if he is any different than other dogs and even when he bumps into something he goes right back on his way. Mobe's owner is looking to place him somewhere where he can get the attention he needs as a special needs dog because she can't give this to him. She also worries about his safety with her cat as he does not defend himself and she is too aggressive with him. She realizes she should not have taken him but it was never indicated up front how severe his blindness was and other than his blindness he is healthy and there was no reason for him to be euthanized. She just had to save him. Owner will be taking Mobe to her own vet for glucose tests to determine if the cause for cataracts is diabetes. She will also get the cyst on his hip checked and start him on some supplements and eye drops as a maintenance measure.
Status: Mobe is still looking for a home as of November 21, 2011

This adorable boy is Teddy! He's a terrier mix who was pulled from an Orlando shelter because he was set to be euthanized! He's a sweet, gentle and friendly little boy!! He's about two years old and weighs approximately 23 pounds. They tried to neuter him in Orlando and he "crashed" under anesthesia before they even started the surgery. It took 5-7 minutes to get him stabilized. He also has hypermetria. So either he had an infection, head injury or birth defect that has caused the blindness as well as the hypermetria. He is housebroken and leash trained and is learning "come". Teddy is good with other dogs and is a smart little boy! Within 48 hours he could rapidly go from his crate through the hall, around corner into kitchen and out the back door without being lead. He can navigate the back yard and locate the back door to return to the house. He already knows where water bowl is placed. Teddy is a very special boy who deserves a loving home of his own.

UPDATED BIO 1/18/2012: Hi, I am Stevie, I am a 3 year old Yorkie boy. I weigh close to nine pounds. I am completely blind, and nobody knows how or when I got to be that way. I need a very very special person to adopt me. I have foster siblings where I am, and they scare me when they are close; so, I need to be an only dog. I am not housetrained, and it took me two weeks here to be brave enough to go outside on a leash. I do not play or wag my tail and am a special needs dog who needs a special person who can help me have some quality in my life. If you are that person or if you know someone who can love me and spend time to work with me please apply to adopt me. I love my foster mom because she feeds me and rubs my head a lot and does the best she can but she has more than just me to care for, and I need my own caretaker who can help me reach my potential and help me improve the quality of my life. Thank you for whatever help you can find for me I am neutered and had a dental and am up to date on all my shots and vaccines. Thank you.... Stevie xoxo
UPDATED BIO 1/2/2012: Hi, my name is Stevie and I am a four year old and 8 or 9 pound yorkie boy. I am blind. I am looking for a very special person to love me and care for me forever. I was so scared at the high kill facility where I was before UYR saved me. UYR found out I was blind when they saved me. The eye doctor doesn't know if I was born blind, got SARD's which is a condition where dogs go blind in an instant, or if I am blind due to a previous illness or what. I was not treated well in the beginning of my life and was very very VERY scared when I got here to my foster home. I am not housebroken and have just started being relaxed enough outside to once in awhile do my business but it is just by accident. I can't lift my leg to pee because I never saw another dog do it so at least the walls don't get wet ever. It has taken since December 11th when I got here for me to walk outside and trust my Foster Mom. Now I jump up on the couch when I know she is near and will also jump up on the couch with lots of encouragement so that FM can pat me and rub my belly which I know was never done to me before. I feel like I died and went to heaven. I now like to smell grass outside but haven't really enjoyed walking on it. I would love to have a person I can trust, who will love me forever and help me to find my way around and be less afraid of things I am around children every so often but have no interest in them as they make suddden movements and scare me. I would also like to be an only dog. I don't wag my tail at all but have stopped keeping it between my legs in fear. I need a very very special person to love me. If you know anyone like that will you tell them about me?
UPDATED BIO 12/10/11: Hi my name is Stevie. I am about 3-4 years old and about 9 pounds. I am mostly blind and very scared. UYR saved me from a place where they put us to sleep if we are there more than 5 days. I have been in my foster home since Dec 1. I am now letting my foster mom pat me and pick me up. I am not housebroken and I don't know how long I wandered the streets but foster mom is surprised I survived even for one day. I need to see a vet and a groomer and an eye dogtor to see why I am blind. It will probably take lots of time and lots of money to fix me. Foster mom won't let me go anyplace until I am less afraid. Any donations would help a lot 'cause it will take a lot to help me get better. I love you all for reading about me and I love UYR for saving me and I love my foster mom for being kind to me. I don't remember the last time anyone was kind to me. Thank you for reading my bio too - Stevie (Wonder!) xoxo
INITIAL BIO 12/06/11: Meet Stevie. He is a 4 year old skinny 8.7 lb boy who is being fostered in Boynton Beach. Poor Stevie was found as a stray and brought to a high kill shelter. Sadly, they couldn't even photograph or vaccinate Stevie at first, because he was petrified of anyone who would touch him. UYR came to his rescue and brought him home. It was then that we realized just how fearful Stevie was.... And why. See, Stevie is mostly blind. We are awaiting a formal evaluation by an eye specialist, but it appears that he can see only shadows. He was extremely frightened, but he is making small steps. He lets his FM pick him up sometimes, and he even puts his paws on her leg so that he can have his ears scratched. He has mapped the home and gets around just fine (did you know dogs rely least on their sense of sight than any other sense?). He doesn't bother the other dogs in the home, and prefers to follow FM around everywhere! She is going slow with this delicate little boy whom life (and humans) treated very harshly. We are determined to help Stevie learn that people love him and that he is safe. Please say prayers for this boy who needs a lot of TLC right now.

Angel was born approx. 7.14.2010 She was found on the streets, with a ruptured hernia, by a caring citizen. Angel had surgery, was spayed and is doing great. Are you the one for Daisy?
Daisy is THE cutest little 8-9 yr old Min Pin. Just one look and you can't help but fall in love! Her pictures do not do her justice! She was rescued from a local animal shelter where she came in as a stray and no one came to claim her. We cannot imagine why as she is just such a wonderful little dog! She is sweet and loving and comical! She weighs just 10 lbs. She is a typical Min Pin and she loves to snuggle! She is fine with other mellow dogs but doesn't like it when the youngsters get in her face. She is housetrained and crate trained. Daisy doesn't even mind cats! She also does the cutest impersonation of a goose........ you have to see it to believe it!
Daisy was just recently diagnosed with Diabetes (she had perfect bloodwork only a few months ago) . And shortly after, went blind. She is adjusting very well to her situation (takes her insulin shots like a champ and still manages to jump up to her favorite spot on the couch) and remains as sweet as ever. Daisy's foster home is not an ideal home for a Blind diabetic. there is just too much going on and the humans just arent home enough. What sweet Daisy really wants is a home of her very own. Diabetes makes Daisy a special needs dog and she needs a home willing to see that she gets all the love and care that she deserves. Are you that special home Daisy seeks? Daisy is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, microchipped and even had a much needed dental. Daisy seeks the perfect forever home!!!
If you think you might be the "one" Daisy needs, please contact wittle13@yahoo.com. If you can't adopt but would like to donate to Daisy's care, please let us know as well.

Update: 11/8/11: Larry has been altered. Larry was in a high kill shelter for a week, than sent to a foster, but the other doggies picked on him, so he went into boarding. Atlanta Dog Squad found another foster, but again their dog had issues with Larry, so instead of trying some training help, they brought him back to boarding :(
10/15: My group rescued a black lab that was picked up as a stray. He spent a week in a high kill shelter before we could get him to our vet. He is blind - but I think he sees some shadows - he definitely saw the flash from my camera. He was also terrified (as can be expected), emaciated and he had heartworms - in addition to an Upper Respiratory Infection that kept him from eating for a while.
Anyhow - he is near completing his heartworm treatment and has put on some weight and is doing very, very well... however.. the only foster home we had willing to take a blind dog didn't work out. Their dogs wouldn't accept him and threatened him -- he was pretty unnerved there so we had to move him back to boarding.
Is there anyone out there in the metro Atlanta area that might consider fostering him for us? We feel horrible that he is stuck in boarding and not getting the attention and interaction he needs. We provide all vetting, HW and flea prevention and even food if you need it. He is a good boy - and he will do very well in a stable home.

Name: Bruno Sex: Male (altered) Breed: Anatolian Shepherd Age: 9 years Location: Dry Ridge, KY
Vet/Medical Info: Bruno is neutered. He was last seen by the vet in Dec. 2010. They have never administered any vaccinations to him or tested him for heartworm. They saw him for a weakness in his hind leg and sudden onset blindness.
Owner Info: DOB 10/18/2002. Bruno's owners are moving to Romania for around 7 years due to a job transfer. They will be leaving in Jan/Feb 2012 and would like for Bruno to be settled into a new home before they go. They rescued Bruno when he was around 2 months old from their local shelter. Bruno literally when blind overnight about a year ago, he was diagnosed with SARDS. Bruno is on a raw diet and takes Dinovite as a pet supplement. He is a bit weak in the back left leg due to an ACL injury 5 years ago. Bruno is good with kids, good with other dogs and cats, very friendly, goes up to people and smells them and then leaves them. He is an inside dog with the run of the house, he’s housebroken and leash trained. Bruno's family thought about taking him with them but have been advised that the transport would be too stressful for him. It was recommended to them by several people they not take him. Bruno is a wonderful family dog who thinks he is a lap dog and is faithful and loyal. He lets their 2 year old grandson climb on him and use him as a step to get on the couch.

KENJI OWNER SURRENDER
Contact Information:
Teresa Schwalenberg Phone: (979) 338-5187 Email: tcs6584@yahoo.com
|
Name: Kenji Sex: Male (altered) Breed: Hound Mix Age: 2 years Location: Pontotoc, MS
Vet/Medical Info: Kenji is neutered, they have no record of HW test or doing any vaccines. He was there in March for sores on his ears, treated for ear mites and put on Cephalexin, back on April 16th, ears still not better. They said he has ongoing ear sores and problems with ears. Asked if he ever exhibited odd behavior or had any other issues, and they said nothing was noted.
Owner Info: Kenji's owner has been looking for someone to give him a home for a couple of months, ever since she knew she had to move. She looked for a place that would allow her to keep him but could not find one. She took him to a rescue recently but they could not keep him for long and he hardly ate, barked all the time and showed some very odd and distressed behavior. She went and got him back and he is currently staying with friends short term. Kenji is a wonderful dog. The shelter said he has a condition called Collie Eye Anomolie and he was probably born blind. He is housebroken and leash trained and is just a good boy. He gets on well with people and other dogs. He does bark a lot when he is around a lot of noise or excitement, she thinks it is because he doesn't know what is going on. When he is inside and it is calm he will lay down and never bothers anything. Kenji would be best suited as an only dog or with just one or two other dogs around. His owner would do anything to be able to keep him, but can't find a new home that allows bigger dogs. Owner has said he is up to date with vaccinations and HW negative but we have been unable to verify this.

LUCY OWNER SURRENDER
Contact Information:
|
Name: Lucy Sex: Female (altered) Breed: Blue Heeler Age: 5 years Location: Carriere, MS
Vet/Medical Info: Lucy is a wonderful dog. She is on Phenobarbital and Potassium Bromide for seizures. On 1/25/2011 she was given a one year rabies vaccination as well as bordatella, DA2PLCPV and a heartworm test which was negative. She also had a fecal float done and had a thorough annual wellness examination. On 2/9/2011 she presented with staph pyoderma and was given cyphalexin and derma vet ointment. On 4/25/2011 she was given heartguard 1 year tablets. On 9/16 she presented with discospondylitis and was given a metacam injection and previcox medication. She is currently on phenobarbital, potassium bromide and previcox for her arthritis at a cost of $120 per month.
Owner Info: Lucy is an incredible dog, very sweet. She's almost completely blind, she has epilepsy and she has arthritis in her back as well. The seizures are very well controlled on the medication, she'd only have a seizure if she were put under a large amount of stress or frightened badly, an example being another dog jumping on her and snarling. Because of the medicines she takes that keep her going, her owners are trying to find her a new loving home because they can't afford $120 per month in doggie pills. They love her very, very much and want to know she'll be somewhere where she'll be happy.

Babe is currently fostered in Greensboro NC, and her adoption donation is $150 Babe can be transported to Ohio for adoption.
Babe is a beautiful black and tan cocker spaniel who was rescued from a shelter after being picked up as a stray. She didnt know it yet but that was her lucky day! Babe needed some medical attention and many wonderful people stepped in to make it all happen.
Babe is truly amazing. You see Babe is blind but you wouldnt know it unless someone told you. She learned to navigate our house in 2 days! This includes going outside to potty, prancing around the backyard, jumping on the sofa for a snooze, and hopping up on the BIG bed all by herself. Babe would love to be an only dog so she can have the bed all to herself but she will share and she easily goes into her crate at night to sleep. She recently was successfully treated for glaucoma and a detached retina and we can really tell that she feels much better. Shes back to her spunky self.
Shes such a cutie and deserves a wonderful forever home of her own. She enjoys snuggling on the sofa and will reach out with her right paw when she would like some lovin. She even likes a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood to smell all the great smells that are out there. We estimate Babe to be about 8 years old but youd never know it. Now that she feels so good and is safe she has many many happy years ahead of her. If you think you can provide a loving home for Babe please contact us right away.
Babe is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and is heartworm negative.

Charlie is a 1-1/2 year old, 70lb lab/boxer mix.
I pulled him from a western NC Shelter at 6 months of age. He is HW negative, on HW preventative, neutered, current on all his shots and microchipped. Unfortunately, in the past few months the vet discovered that Charlie is developing cataracts. Not sure of the cause and they are stringy, not lense-like. So far they don't appear to be affecting his vision and perhaps they won't become an issue anytime soon, but I think he would do best in the home of someone who has had blind or vision impaired dogs that could monitor his condition and would understand and be able to assist him if issues did arise.
Charlie has a very, very sweet lab personality - he is playful and mischievous (in a fun way) and very very smart. He is great with other dogs - loves to run and play with my other fosters. Allows the foster puppies to crawl on him and chew on him and he loves it. He thinks he should sleep in your bed at your feet or your side (he does sleep with me but once he's there, he doesn't move the entire night). He would very much love to lay on your lap, although he definitely has outgrown mine.
Charlie is crate trained, housebroken and understands the word "NO". He is still pulling a little bit on his leash when we first start out on walks when he's really excited but generally settles down after the first 5 minutes. He absolutely loves to rides in a car and does well on trips because he loves to be wherever you are. He has a gentle mouth - no known aggressive behavior.
Charlie enjoys chasing my cat, but has never attempted to hurt her. However he does love to annoy her. He loves to play (all the time!) and simply just does not understand why the cat has no interest in him. As soon as she stops running though, he loses interest. I actually think he would love it if she'd chase him back! I do not know how he would be with rough-housing children, but given his exuberance for life, his love for people in general and his size, I would not recommend placing him in a home with toddlers or small children that might easily get knocked down.
Charlie loves everyone, so I do not anticipate any problems with him being around older children. He would love nothing better than a couple of kids to run and play ball with, someone to get him out and about town, or placement in a home with another smaller to medium size dog to play with.
I would love to provide any additional information that anyone might need.

Description
The O'Patty Pups look cute and innocent in these photos but that's only because they had just been scolded for knocking over the trash can and spreading the contents everywhere! They are curious little trouble makers ... pretty much normal 12 week old puppies. When they aren't being naughty, they are sweet and cuddly .... and always a handful.
Update
The larger male pup has been adopted. The smaller female pup has been determined to be almost totally deaf. This is the only reason this lovely girl has not been adopted. Raising a deaf puppy can be a challenge but is not as difficult as you might think.
Alabama an 8 month old spaniel mix who came to our shelter as a puppy. She was released with her mother and siblings, all of which have their hearing. Unfortunately she is deaf, she has grown up in our kennels and we are trying desperately to get her placed. She is not at risk or being put to sleep but she is quickly growing and we hate seeing her live in our kennels.

WENNIE
Contact Information:
|
SNUGGLE BUG! WENNIE is a lovable senior dachshund/chihuahua mix. At 12 lbs., she's a great lap dog and she loves to ride in the car. She also walks on leash, but prefers a harness to being leashed by her collar. Wennie will sit right next to you on your favorite chair or the couch and enjoys sleeping with you, but a dog bed or the couch is fine, too. She goes to the door when she needs to go out and also when she's ready to come in and has learned to use the dog door at her foster home. She would make a great companion for a retired person or someone who is home a lot. Wennie had a complete physical at the end of September and a senior blood panel and dentistry in February and is in good health. She is deaf, but responds to body language and hand motions, so we don't consider her handicapped. NOTE: We have a "seniors for seniors" program, which means we reduce the adoption fee for seniors dogs adopted by senior (60+) people.

MICHAEL OWNER SURRENDER
Contact Information:
Marilyn Davis Phone: (423) 863-2024 Email: mdavis10@hotmail.com
|
Name: Michael Sex: Male (altered) Breed: Chow Mix Age: Unknown Location: Limestone, TN
Vet/Medical Info: The lady that is caring for Michael is one of their best clients, she takes good care of her animals. Michael was neutered 5/25/11, he also received all vaccinations on that date. Rabies was a 1 year shot. He is Heartworm negative and on Heartworm prevention meds.
Owner Info: Michael was a stray that found his caregiver about six weeks ago. She has 10 other animals and can't keep him. She works two jobs and goes to school, time is very limited. Michael has been shifted around a lot because she can't keep him at her house, he always adjusts well. Michael has been to the vet once, the vet seemed to think he was blind in one eye and had some vision in the other, he thought he was born that way. When she realized Michael was visually impaired, she knew what would happen if she abandoned him to the shelter. She decided to get him neutered, his shots and his heartworm but then didn't know what to do with him. He already has a strike against him because of his blindness. Right now he is at a kennel, but she can't afford to keep him there much longer.

Can't say enough about how much we love Edna and she LOVES her some people too. She never leaves our side, stuck to us like glue. The BEST car companion EVER. She is afraid of the dark, (probably due to her limited eyesight). She is full of love & affection. Her only fault is she is needs to be an only dog. He past unfortunately, won't seem to let her be anything but. she was skeletal, had bloody wounds all over her body and was just pretty much done trying. in addition to the horrible condition she was in when she arrived, she had an old injury to her head that had left her blind in one eye......who wouldn't give up after all of that........edna, that is who........ as she started feeling better(and was being fed) little by little she came back. much to our joy, she is now super sweet, loves people and is ready to give life and love another chance. we estimate her to be about 3 or 4 years old. she is crate trained and doing really well on her in the house manners. she is not great with other dogs, as she lived with other dogs that were also starving and they learned to fight for food, they had to. in any case, she has improved as far as her behavior goes with other dogs, but she will be happiest as an only dog child. speaking of kids, she loves them. the vet says there is nothing to do at this point about her eye injury, but she may need to actually have the eye removed at some point.

We have a young 1-year-old male, lethal white aussie in our care. We have completely vetted him, but we are not the right rescue for this dog and we are not doing right by him as we don't have fosters really equipped to handle a partially blind and deaf puppy. We are looking for a rescue that can handle a lethal white aussie and find him the home he needs and deserves. We are not seeking reimbursement, just the right rescue. Please spread the word to rescues that handle this kind of dog. I have flamed out trying to find an aussie rescue in the area. Work your magic and see if someone out there can help this guy. He is in the Nashville, TN area.

This is Dancer! He's a male, LW aussie. He has some vision and I do believe he may be able to hear some. He's wonderful!!! He is about 1-1/2 years old maybe at the most, very sociable and affectionate. He is safe with me but I can't keep him and need help finding him a foster or an adopter. He is scheduled to be neutered on Dec 23rd and at that time we will have him tested for HW's and erhlichia. He is under Hickman Humane Society's care in Hickman County TN which is about 40 miles west of Nashville. He is VERY smart and I think would be easily trained with hand signals as I have taught him a little bit in the short time I have been fostering him. He walks well on a harness and gets along with other dogs in the short amount of time he has been around my dogs, I wanted to get him neutered before I just turned him in with my bunch off leash. He is a beautiful boy that needs a loving home, he has lots of love to give.

Gender: Male Microchipped: Yes Age: 8 Years Neutered: Yes Color: Black and Tan Weight: 75 lbs. House-trained: Yes Crate-trained: Yes Special Needs: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Unknown Good with Kids: Unknown Fostered in: Sterling, Virginia VGSR Tag # 2467
I had originally planned to adopt Bobby when I agreed to take him from the shelter. He is eight years old and has very limited vision. He adapts very quickly and uses his nose to make up for what he cannot see. But, the problem with my adopting him is that he HATES and I do mean HATES one of my other foster dogs, Maxamillion. He is fine with my own two dogs, and my other two foster dogs. In fact, he wrestles and plays with Maximus. But he has hated Little Max from day one (which was Christmas Eve) and still goes after him with a vengeance at any given opportunity. We are afraid that this might be a pattern with any new male dog coming into our home situation and that would make life as a foster home pretty miserable. Bobby is affectionate, calm, loves to relax in his crate with the door open, a very enthusiastic eater, rides well in the car and does well on a leash. He will destroy soft dog toys with great abandon. He loves to play with balls of any sort. Bobby had a very rough life - before he came to VGSR he lived in crate on a porch, or was shut down in the basement when the weather got too bad. He is one of those poor souls whose life actually became BETTER after he went to the animal shelter. Because of the way that he likes to shred his toys, I am guessing that a home with a cat would not be a good idea. Also, because of his limited vision, he probably would do best in a home without very young children. But, Bob is a great guy that deserves a chance. Hi, everyone! My name is Macy, and I am a sweet, gentle, 7 year old beauty. At least, that's what everyone tells me. You see, I am blind, so I cannot see my reflection in the mirror. I'm pretty sure it's true, though, as so many people approach me wanting to be my friend! The nice folks at OBG recently brought me here from a shelter far away, and I am so thankful that I can be my cheerful self again. My new foster mom had not lived with a blind dog until she met me, so she was not sure what to expect. But wow! She is super impressed. I like to know what is going on at my level, so I check out what is on the floor, mainly furniture and feet. Although I occasionally bump into things as I learn where things are, I take it all in as just part of my exploration, and I remember where I have been very quickly. My house manners are excellent, with no accidents and no interest in destroying anything. Once I am comfortable, I have no trouble curling up to snuggle. I really love to be with my people, listening for their voices and movements to help guide me, and I welcome any love that comes my way. As expected, I walk well on lead with a bit of direction, but the big surprise has been how well I do in the yard. I quickly mastered the steps at my foster house, and I love enjoying the sunshine. Just like inside, my nose and ears guide me, and I can have as much fun as anyone. I look forward to spending lots of good times with my forever family. I especially love car rides and sitting on laps, and I give affectionate kisses. I get along well with other doggies; sometimes they startle me since I can't see them, so I would be most happy as an only dog or with a gentle canine companion. So many people are not aware that a pup such as myself can live a happy, fulfilling life while not seeing. I understand dogs adjust much better to these things than humans, and I wake up happy each day! WOLFIE
Contact Information:
|
Wolfie is a happy young man who is a "leaner". Loves to lean on you for petting, or, even better, will sit in your lap. He walks well on leash and is good with other dogs. Wolfie is 18-24 months and is vision impaired. He can see large shapes, but will walk into something like chain link fence. Sadly, both eyes have detached retinas, most likely from an untreated infection. This doesn't stop him at all from enjoying walks on leash or playing with his toys. If you are interested in adopting or fostering this dog, please contact CHAAMP at CHAAMPapplication@gmail.com for an application. Our application is not meant to keep you from adopting! It is a tool to help us figure out which of our dogs are a good match for you and your lifestyle.

From his foster mom:
Thank you for any help and promotion you can give Albert. He is a truly wonderful dog! Meet Albert, the island goddess! He knows "sit," walks well on a leash, tolerates being handled like a champ, gives out kisses freely, and will steal your heart in a flash. I see him as being a hard core couch potato and professional bed warmer in the house. Almost forgot to mention that Albert is blind - he gets around so well, even in new settings, that you quickly forget that he can't see....with his eyes, at least. Judging by all the kisses and tail wags he was doling out, he sees with his heart just fine. If you would like to know more about Albert, please contact his foster mom Michelle at jmkeffer499@yahoo.com How does Albert get along with other dogs? He did fine with mine that DON'T jump on him. I have several jumpers and it scares him. It might not be bad to have him as an only dog and definitely not with any households with alpha dogs as I'm afraid they would try to jump on him as well. Yes, until I test him further, go ahead and have him as an only dog. Once I get him neutered, I will continue testing. More info from foster mom, Michelle, about Albert! Albert is now in the house and has been integrated in with 4 of the 9 dogs so far and is doing great. He is in with my jumpers. Occasionally, he bumps into my hateful dog and he growls at Albert but Albert does not respond. He prefers to be with me but does wag his tail when all the dogs are all walking around together. He is doing great in the house and adjusting to indoor life with other dogs. He definitely loves to lay around. And he is content sleeping as long as he knows his humans are around. Great dog!

His name is Huckleberry, and he is ADORABLE!! We are guessing Shih tzu Pug Mix?? The perfect lap dog! When he is in a comfortable space, he even plays! Life has been confusing for him (as you can imagine being blind). He was found as a stray on the side of the road here in Fluvanna Co, Virginia, and we actually thought he might have paralysis when he came in. He was so scared and confused he would not move. He did also go to a home for awhile, but had to be returned because the senior cat in the home would not accept him, and it was causing him lots of stress. He does have some additional special needs in that we have to put drops in his eyes every day for his dry eye, and he also gets ear treatments every day. He has skin allergies on his feet, so he needs some special shampooing on his feet from time-to-time. VERY special boy who deserves all the TLC in the world. The vet is also guessing he is around 7 years old. We do not do regular showings at adopting places, but we do have daily hours here at the sanctuary. I would be happy to arrange just about anything for the right potential place for him.

TUCKER OWNER SURRENDER
Contact Information:
Sara Randolph Phone: (304) 206-5281 Email: SLBSW@aol.com
|
Name: Tucker Sex: Male (altered) Breed: Labrador Mix Age: Approximately 12 - 18 months Location: Hamlin, WV
Vet/Medical Info: Vaccinations UTD including rabies until 10/17/12. Never tested for heartworm. Tucker was neutered in November 2011 and has had a repair for an umbilical hernia.
Owner Info: Tucker is a very loving dog! He came to Sara as a stray. He just appeared in her yard one day. Because they already have three dogs and they both work long hours, they are unable to keep him. He weighs 40 pounds. He is an outdoor dog, and is not housebroken or leash trained. Tucker is good with other dogs, but can be possessive of his food. He has never bitten or snapped at anyone. Tucker has been diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy and he is totally blind. Tucker appears healthy other than the PRA, has a good appetite, and is very playful. The vet is not sure how long he has been blind and might have just recently lost all vision. He became very anxious at the vet's office today and showed some aggression there, however, he did not bite anyone. Sara believes that if she had been allowed to be with him when they were administering his vaccinations there would probably not have been any problems, but he did react when someone strange approached from behind. He calmed down once he was brought back to Sara. They have seen no signs of aggression with them, their neighbors or extended family members. He is not shy, but he does become nervous with loud noises (gunshots). They have not observed him with small or younger children. They have cats but he has not seen them. He really is a happy go lucky dog who just wants a family to love him!
