Sex: Male (neutered)
Breed: Pit Bull
Age: 1 1/2 years

Progress Update 3/8/11: He is crate trained now!

Vet/Medical Info: Stevie has been neutered, is UTD with shots and heartworm negative. EENT - bilateral, lateral strabismus, no menace. Apart from being blind, he is in perfect health.

Owner Info: Stevie was rescued from the Humane Society of Arizona by a wonderful couple. They wanted to foster him but could not due to dog aggression issues with their own dog (nothing to do with Stevie). They found a foster home for Stevie but unfortunately his foster Dad now has to move and cannot take Stevie with him. They are looking for a forever home or new foster home for Stevie. They are happy to continue to sponsor Stevie's as long as he is in foster care, paying for all costs including food and medical expenses. Stevie is a very sweet boy - he has an awesome temperament and is sensitive, intelligent and snuggly:) They take Stevie out regularly for socialisation and have even been taking him to training sessions. Here is a link to Stevie's blog so you can see what he has been up to  http://steviewonderpup.wordpress.com/

URGENT FOREVER HOME NEEDED

Susie is an adorable, 4 yr. old, 15 lb., Tibetan Spaniel / Long Haired Chihuahua mix. She is very happy, loves all people and is very affectionate and her best attribute is she is very calm and mellow. She's very smart, gets along with other dogs her size (she is afraid of big dogs). Susie is blind but she knows how to use the doggie door and HER BLINDNESS DOES NOT AFFECT HER AT ALL AND ACTS LIKE ANY OTHER DOG WHO HAS SIGHT. She walks well on leash right by your side and loves to go for walks. She likes to cuddle with you while you're watching TV. Susie is healthy, housetrained, spayed, current on all vaccines and micro-chipped.

Adoption only open to Southern California residents. An adoption application must be filled out PRIOR to meeting any of our dogs.

We do not adopt our dogs to households with children under 10 years old. To receive an application

We are a bonded pair available for adoption through Coastal German Shepherd Rescue. We are both 4 years old. We have to be adopted together because Raven has been blind since birth, she is the pretty shepherd mix, and Dunkan is Raven's guide dog, as you can see from our photos we really love each other...we are always together...although Dunkan is very very athletic and would make a great agility ...dog...we also are terrific search and rescue dogs...we had a kennel mate that got adopted and she has escaped a couple times, guess who they come and get to help find her??? Yup that is right the Dynamic Duo...we are very very very low maintenance and would NOT take up much space in anyone's home, we both have HUGE hearts and LOTS of love to give...please help us find our forever home.

Rocky wasn't given much time in the shelter - he had so many strikes against him - blind, senior, missing patches of hair. Again we were faced with the thought of yet another senior tossed out like the trash. Left to chance in a county shelter where there was little hope of anyone taking a 2nd look at him.

Posting his plea on Facebook, we were able to get him into an initial foster home. He has since moved to a 2nd foster home where he lives with a number of other dogs, ranging from pups to seniors, girls & boys. Rocky has fit in beautifully and wants no trouble - his motto is live & let live. He listens carefully for his foster human before venturing outside but once out, he loves to wander and explore. He figures out his surroundings very quickly and he lives for mealtime! When he hears the kibble bouncing in the bowls, he lets loose an earthshaking WOOF (we are working on toning that down, just because he is blind doesn't mean he can't wait his turn!). He is also in tune with what is going on outside his immediate area and is a decent watch dog - that bark means business when you hear it outside!!!

Rocky has very few problems other than sight. He is agile, housebroken, walks nicely on a leash and does well with other dogs. He appears to have flea allergies so we keep up on his monthly flea medication and his coat is starting to shine after a couple of months of good nutrition.

Please don't overlook Rocky if you are looking for a mellow, older dog. He would love to live with a retired person who wants company.

If you think Rocky would be a great match for you, please contact Tiffany via email at tiffany@coastalgsr.org. Don't forget to fill out our online application.

UPDATE 11/28: Now named "SPIRIT" aka Frosty Snowman for the season..He's eating well, sleeping deeply and thinks he found his Momma he so badly misses and got taken from way too early.......He has some sight because he follows a flashlight beam at night and he hears slightly from one ear. Tomorrow he visits our vet for testing.. He's a sweet little guy you feel so so sorry for to be discarded like that and wished and ill fate. Well he is just going to show us all he has the "SPIRIT" to survive...What a wonderful blessing on Thanksgiving weekend. I really think we'll all be touched by his journey..Be Sure to follow and THANK U for all your good wishes and remembering us for donations.

UPDATE 11/26: The precious little 6-wk old all wht blind pup has arrived (named shortly) He is as sweet as can be and was welcomed with open arms and loads of love from our friends and supporters. They came bearing gifts of his very own first dog bed and toys, food, biscuits, treats, blankets etc.. It was a wonderfully touching experience to watch and I have a feeling each of our friends left with a fuller heart as well-THANK U Pict- Vicki T who made his rescue possible and Kelly Williams (husb Ron present also)presenting his first bed and also falling in love!!(more info & photos will be coming-Keep posted)

UPDATE 11/24: To the cold-hearted person who placed this poor helpless puppy in the middle of the intersection because he was not born perfect and apparently has no sight and may also be hearing impaired, I wonder how you can have peace with yourself on this eve of Thanksgiving..Don't worry....Yes he did make it out alive because someone who cared helped him just in time. OH Yes we are going to try to see what we can do for him to overcome his impairments and hardships and he probably will turn out to have the biggest heart capable of returning more love than you can imagine.

Petfinder: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21053430
Breed: Shepherd/corgi mix
Gender: Male
Size: Small
Neutered: Yes

Bumper is a 12 year old corgi mix, possibly with some shepard or jack russell terrier. He was rescued from a high kill shelter by Muttville and has nothing but love for other dogs and people. Despite being completely blind and partially deaf, this little guy gets around very well. He is always able to find food and the warmest places to sleep whether it be laying in the sun or cuddling with his human. This guy is quite the explorer and enjoys going to the park and taking in all the smells.

Bumper fills the home with loving laughs as he is a silly little guy. He has learned to play with Kongs and has even mastered stairs (though he takes them very cautiously). Bumper does not walk on leash, but always sticks close by to his person, so he will do best in a home with a yard. He is housebroken if he is taken out every few hours and would do best in a quiet home where furniture is not moved around and he has room to explore. He receives love from everyone he meets and is looking for someone he wants his unconditional love.

Sweet, sweet Chelsea… she is a 14 year old kind and mellow spaniel mix, so happy to be out of the shelter.

She enjoys going for walks, rides well in the car and loves to give big kisses.

Chelsea has limited hearing/vision and has a hard time with more than 1-2 stairs. Otherwise, she gets around fine. And she sure can move quickly for treats. One of her greatest joys in life is a delicious meal.

She is great with dogs, cats and older children. While not necessary, she benefits from having other dogs around to help show her the way.

Maybe due to all she’s been through these past couple of months, plus simply being an older girl, she sometimes needs to take a moment to collect her thoughts. Once thoughts are gathered, she snaps out of it and is ready for her treat!

Chelsea does not ask for much. Loves to be with her people, could use some TLC and will do well in a gentle, loving home.

Cash is blind, but his blindness isn't caused by something wrong with his eyes. He has a neurological disorder. He can't focus very well; I believe he is in a constant state of confusion. At times, he will attack himself and scratch his head or bite his leg until he is screaming in pain yet is unable to stop.

The first vet Cash saw believes a parasite is causing these symptoms. He prescribed medication; however, the meds are not working as Cash's symptoms are getting worse. We're going to have to get a second opinion. We will do everything in our power to save Cash, and get him back to the healthy, happy pup he should be! Please, this ordeal will not be cheap.

If you can help save Cash's life, please do! Even a dollar will help him!! Please donate and share, thank you so much!

YimeYam Rach :We are a small, private rescue located in Southern California (Morongo Valley, CA 92256). We focus on saving the lives of adoptable dogs and getting them safely into a wonderful new home! If you are interested in adopting, fostering or volunteering, or you wish to send a donation of dog food or used pet supplies, please feel free to give us a call! (760) 363-7663

Update 01/23/12: Cash is doing very well. We took him to a second vet, and they said his blindness was either a birth defect or caused by head trauma (he has a dip in his skull, possibly from an old injury). They don't think he has neurological issues after all, he's just got natural instincts that run in overdrive all the time. We've been working with him on his behavioral issues (attacking himself while eating, etc.). He's doing very well! He has his moments, and will never be "normal", but in my book that just makes him more lovable. He's the cuddliest little guy in the world! Also, he isn't housebound! :D We got him a front pack, so he goes on trips with us everywhere and is just like any other dog. We're still looking for his forever home, but in the meantime, he has a home here with us. :)

T-bone is a 6 year old lightly borken coated Jack Russell Terrier. As you can see, he LOVES the water! T-bone is sweet, affectionate and loves playing games with his humans. T-bone is nearly blind due to retinal degeneration but it does not slow him down one bit and he even enjoys playing ball. He catches it by listening to the bounce. T-bone is good with some dogs but can be a little picky about his doggy friends. He will need a home without cats as he likes them a little too much. T-bone is not super high energy and is content with going for a little walk or playing ball and cuddling up with his owner. He just wants to be loved.

TAHNEE

Contact Information:

Farah Ravon
Email: kfravon@yahoo.com
Phone: 1-408-431-6954
I first noticed saw Tahnee, a sweet, blind toy poodle, on one of my regular visits to Ocean Pet Hospital in Pacifica. With nearly fifteen years in animal rescue, I often see animal patients there, so I assumed she was there temporarily. Then I saw her again and again on subsequent visits, all since February 2011--and it was already December 2011!

With Christmas fast approaching, I decided I had to learn more about her. I couldn’t imagine her sweet, forlorn face all alone at the hospital during the holidays. I asked Dr. Nia for Tahnee’s story.

After a debilitating stroke in 2011 and subsequent fall – Tahnee’s elderly human was unable to care for her. The woman’s caretakers were forced to board poor, blind Tahnee frequently while their mother recovered from her injuries.

I couldn’t bear the idea of Tahnee all alone on the holidays with no one there to snuggle her. We contacted her family and they were grateful for the help. They agreed that another, more stable home would be better for Tahnee.

A dear friend and a Vafa supporter immediately offered a warm, loving foster home to Tahnee.  She’s staying with Shadi, her husband, and their three furry paws since then. Now that we know more about Tahnee, we are excited to help her find the perfect forever, loving home.
Tahnee will probably do best in a home with only one dog, or without any other dogs, because she tends to get a bit trampled (she can’t see the other dogs running around or when to get out of the way). She also seems happiest when she’s the only dog in the room. She has learned what it means to “go outside” and knows her way to the back door. She handles her business on the grass and then finds her way back to the door. She follows my voice when I call her; she’s quite adept at learning her way around.

Tahnee loves, loves, LOVES to be held and cuddled and hanging out on your lap. She is very friendly when it comes to strangers and other dogs. She relishes the home-cooked meals that consist of boiled chicken or beef and boiled veggies (carrots, zucchini, and celery).

Her daily activities include sleeping and exploring the living room, and snuggling with her people. Her only request of humans is: please don’t touch my paws while I’m sleeping, as I may become startled and grumpy, and growl until you stop.

All in all, Tahnee is a great low-maintenance dog, friendly to everyone and very “capable” despite her blindness.  She deserves to settle in to a stable home, and enjoy the rest of her life being loved by beautiful people.

Tahnee is Spayed.

If you are interested to meet Tahnee, please contact me! We are happy to arrange a visit.

Colorado

Denver, CO - Shrek has lived a life of solitude and loneliness.

Up until days ago, this blind, deaf dog was confined outdoors, tethered to a chain where he lived without shelter - without any form of comfort.

Shrek is seven years old. Seven years without the freedom to run and play. Seven years of cold winters and hot summers. Seven years of heartbreaking loneliness. Shrek was able to leave this deplorable life behind when his owner offered him up for free on Craigslist. Thankfully his story was seen by a rescuer who was able to take him in. Imagine - for the first time in seven years, this dog finally was able to sleep indoors. For the first time, he was able to feel comfort and to know kindness. Shrek is now safe in the care of independent rescuer, Connie Fitzgerald. But this rescuer has a dream for Shrek - that he be able to spend Christmas with a family - his own true family.

The following has been shared about Shrek:

"What a beautiful boy! Shrek is easy going, smart, gentle and very passive. He is potty trained and is a fast learner about his surroundings! Shrek would like to have a place to call home before the holidays! But I'm thinking....yeah, he's gonna be so happy to spend Christmas with someone for sure...but....I'm guessing he will make that someone even more happier! ~grin~ Please continue to share Shrek and network him through out the rescue community and see if we can't get this boy settled soon!"

Shrek's days of being alone are behind him. Together, strangers can work to make his future brighter - please share Shrek's story and help him locate his forever family.

Follow Shrek at this Facebook page which has been established to help him find a home.

Adoption and/or foster inquiries can be directed to: cl_fitzgerald@comcast.com

Donations to help with Shrek's care (he is scheduled to see an opthamologist for his eyes Dec. 13, 2011) can be made via this Chip-in.

TALLULAH and BODIE
OWNER SURRENDER

Contact Information:

Linda de France
Phone: (702) 682-2556
Email:
lindadefrance@gmail.com

Name: Tallulah and Bodie
Sex: Females (altered)
Breed: Catahoula/Greyhound Mix and Shepherd Mix
Age: 2 years
Location: Ennis, MT

Vet/Medical Info: Tallulah is up to date on vaccines. Had three-year rabies in April 2011, due 3/29/2014. Due for distemper and parvo on 3/31/2012 and due for bordatella on 10/1/11. Due for next rattlesnake vaccine and deworming in May 2012. Tallulah is spayed, they have no record of HW testing. Both eyes are dilated but not responsive and she has no blink response. Bodie is a spayed female shepherd cross.  No heartworm testing done, due for rabies, distemper, parvo and lepto on 6/22/2012, due for bordatella 12/23/11.  Due for deworming  in May, 2012.  Bodie is microchipped, as is Tallulah. Other than swelling after her spay, they had no medical information of note.

Owner Info: DOB October 2009. Tallulah and Bodie’s owner has seven dogs and was just fostering Tallulah and her little buddy Bodie. She took them off death row at the Alamogordo, NM Animal Control Shelter, the day they were to be euthanized. The shelter deemed them "unadoptable." Unfortunately Tullulah and Bodie’s owners husband was killed in a plane crash and it has caused her life to be so unstable, she doesn't know where she is going to live, much less the doggies. She has grown quite attached to all the dogs, but she feels the two newest ones, Tallulah and Bodie, should be the ones to surrender. Tullie and Bodie have been together since they were puppies, the bond they share is amazing, it is clear that Bodie knows Tallulah is not sighted and often acts as a go-between her and either a new person or a new situation. It is quite something to witness. They have been inseparable for the past almost two years. They were initially crate-trained together, spayed together then kept in the kennel at the Vet while she got her home in order to be able to foster two more dogs. When she has to travel, they always are in the same run at the kennels. Her other dogs require more medical care and expenses and she is committed to that. She just cannot care for this many dogs when her life is so unstable and up in the air. She has been to and contacted animal shelters in Montana and New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Texas, and none of them want to take on "special needs" dogs. She wishes they could understand how easy it is to have a blind dog; her other dogs require much more care and medical attention. Tullulah is a very smart girl, she knows commands such as Sit, Stay, Lie Down, Go to Your Bed, No, Come, Move, Up, Down, Let's Go For a Ride, Want a Treat? and Time to Eat. She is probably the smartest dog her owner has ever seen. She is quite sweet and likes to cuddle and be held. She gives great dog-hugs, standing on her hind legs and reaching her front paws up wanting a hug. She sleeps on the bed with her owner and several of the other dogs sometimes. Sometimes she sleeps in a chair, sometimes in her dog bed with her buddy Bodie. She is very active and is the best dog to run with because she never tires. She stays around the house and doesn't try to run off.  She loves to go for car rides and wants to put her head out the window even though she can't see anything. She does get cold easily, in the winter she wears a little coat. She is very compliant when having her nails trimmed or getting shots or a medical check-up. Tallulah and her owners one large female dog do not like each other. They growl at each other and the other dog basically just avoids Tallulah. She can take them on walks together though. That said, Talullah has bitten at the other dog once in the car. She has not bitten or snapped at any people or any other animals. She tries to keep the two dogs separated unless she is present. Tallulah and Bodie have moved a couple of times since her owners husband was killed and they adapt immediately to the new home environment. They have also adapted well the few times they have been in boarding kennels. She believes Tallulah was born sighted. The animal control officers ran her into traffic when they were chasing her and she got hit by a car. She had numerous abrasions to her face and head and the Vet thinks the impact may have damaged her optic nerves. She is completely blind in both eyes. Her owner would not recommend her being put in a family with children or cats as she has never, ever been around them and she doesn't know what her reaction would be. Her other dogs hate cats and bark at them so she thinks she has learned that from them. She gets along with all of her other dogs, except for the one. They do not like each other. So a dominant female dog home would probably not be the best idea. She clearly likes to be the dominant female but her little male terriers clearly dominate her. Both dogs are housebroken and leash trained. Their owner can pay for transportation to get them to where they need to go, for fostering or to a home. If it is in one of the surrounding states, she can even drive them there and is willing to assist with paying for food and boarding.

URGENT!!! Our foster home can no longer care for our Sophie so have given us until Dec 31 to find another place for her. SHE NEEDS A NEW FOSTER HOME!! She is wonderful with other dogs and after just a minute or two (and a few treats) she warms up to people quickly. Even though deaf, she knows numerous hand signals and is learning more each day. PLEASE HELP BY PROVIDING FOSTER CARE UNTIL WE CAN FIND HER FOREVER HOME!!!!

This beautiful, blue-eyed girl is incredibly sweet and gentle... and she's also deaf. Sophie weighs approx 40lbs, is 15 months old and she's already experienced numerous 'homes.' Because her life so far has been so unstable, she's a bit timid and cautious with new people. With patience and gentleness she quickly bonds and begins to trust, especially if you feed her good treats and you let her curl up next to you while sleeping! She's at first a bit timid with other dogs but after only a few seconds she coexists just fine... although not with the little ones She still doesn't quite know how to play but she seems interested and curious when the other dogs are running through the yard... with a little more time she'll be running right along with them. Sophie will thrive in a home that has plenty of time, patience and encouragement to give, one that is relatively calm, and with people interested in helping her continue to learn, despite her hearing impairment. Her curiosity of new places gets the best of her so she loves to go on walks and hikes and is learning that new surroundings can be fun instead of scary. Because of her current timid nature, kids over 16 are recommended, and no cats.
