You would never know that Moon Pie was completely blind--apart from
walking like a drunken sailor, she gets everywhere, including up and
down stairs. She loves walks, loves people, her tail never stops
wagging!
She is living in a foster home with three other dogs and several cats.
She is completely house trained, does not bark except when she wants to
come inside, and just wants to be with her people. She'll follow you
around the house. She enjoys the occasional chew toy and loves walks
and car rides. Moon Pie was found as a stray in Ohio so her exact age
isn't known, perhaps between 7-10 years old. She has been checked by a
veterinarian, her teeth and health are excellent, she is heartworm
negative, spayed and current on vaccinations.
Moon Pie likes her foster home but would really like her very own
forever people. She is such a sweetie! I let Moon Pie
walk around the house when I brought her home, with the other dogs
outside. I noticed she kept her head lowered and bonked gently into
things all over...almost like she was mapping the space. She is clearly
comfortable with being blind, she's very waggy and not at all hesitant.
Then I put her in a crate and let the other dogs in. So
I let her out with just Deefer (figuring he was the least threatening)
and she bonked and bumbled around the office while he sniffed her and
tried to get her to play. Then I let the other two in and everyone
sniffed everyone else and that was that.
She's been out all over the yard, and got stuck under the deck for a
while. She is a very self possessed little thing, somewhere between
middle aged and senior. Got her back inside and she followed me into
the office, then lay down and napped. I notice she responds faster to
me clicking my tongue than speaking words.
Deefer and Duke are laying next to her. Fiona is on her throne in the
living room, pretending there is no such thing as another dog in the
house. She is very, very cute. Looks like some sort of spaniel mix. Affectionate and wags her tail a lot. She LOVES bully sticks and tripe! If you would like to donate to Moon Pie's care, donations can be sent to BDRA PO Box 63401 Philadelphia PA 19114
